Serious child

I was just thinking about how intensely serious I was as a child. My sister and I started out seeing the same doctor. She thought he was funny. He would tell you things like how there were potatoes growing in your ears or bunnies hopping around in them when he checked your ears. I understand as an adult why that was funny and a stress reduction technique for the kids he saw. But for me, it was a reason to distrust him. I thought he was either ridiculous – because who would ever think to tell someone there’s potatoes and bunnies in their ears when they need to know if they are healthy – or he really thought he saw those things and he was a terrible doctor. I was young enough that either felt equally possible to me. My mother got me a different doctor when I presented my concerns. It’s just funny how completely differently two people can see the same thing.
